The older I’ve become the more I realize life is a beautiful combination of destiny and free will. It is never a 50-50 split, but somehow, it is always in constant balance. I have come to believe that destiny is the hand that life has dealt us; free will is the way we choose to deal with it. There have been many, many moments in my life since I was diagnosed with diabetes that I have had to remind myself of that. Feeling sorry, remorseful, guilty or any of the other many negative feelings that have plagued all of us at one time or another are a complete waste of time and the biggest energy sucker around. Choosing to live well, be healthy and happy as a woman with diabetes is wonderful. Choosing to reach out and try to help others live well, be healthy and happy is the ultimate. The opportunities to help one another are endless, and you don’t have to be “perfect” to make a difference. Everyone of us has our own unique story, your perspectives and experience could mean the world to someone. November is Diabetes Awareness month, I think the perfect way for each of us to acknowledge this would be to volunteer for an organization related to diabetes next month. Be the change, not only for yourself, but for others as well. |
