On Saturday, I had the privilege to volunteer as a Go Red Ambassador at the Dixie Classic Fair.  Besides being at a really fun and cool venue, the best thing about that day was the two young women who manned the tent with me.  I am awestruck each time I encounter such passion and enthusiasm in such very young ladies.  I am talking about freshmen college aged women, giving up a Saturday afternoon – evening to volunteer and spend their time creating awareness about heart disease when they could be hanging out with friends, having a date, or some other activity that most of us normally associate with someone so young.  It is important to note that they were not just “there”; they were completely engaged in the moment.  So much so that I was able to sit back much more as an observer than a task director, and I have to tell you, that was a really great feeling.  I was just over the top proud of them, and even more than that, it was reassuring to me and made me hopeful for the future of such a beloved program built by women for women with huge investments of love and vision.Just when I think it doesn’t get any better, Sunday afternoon comes along and I find myself sitting with the most amazing and inspirational women I have ever met.  I am referring to the women who volunteer for DiabetesSisters Weekend for Women planning committee.  This the first time I actually met most of the women in person.  I can tell you now there are no words I can commit to paper that will do them justice.  Each of them posses the “it” factor and that is something that does not translate well.  It is very much an in-the-moment experience, the kind that people often describe as “you will know it when you see it”.  I am humbled and beyond honored to be in the company of such amazing women.  This organization is so needed in our lives; I want each of you reading this to consider what you can do to help it grow.  And even if you are not sure exactly what it is you could do or want to try, I encourage you to step up and be open to possibilities.  Each of us has something valuable to contribute.  I would like to close with a quote that I saw for the first time today and immediately thought of DiabetesSisters……“By doing nothing more than observing and acting on the obvious, a person can change the world.” – Buckminster Fuller
