“You must be the change you wish to see in the world” – Mahatma Ghandi For anyone who knows me and reads this blog, they will immediately relate this quote to me.  It is absolutely my all time favorite, it has not only become my signature quote, it is the mantra I try to live by each and every day……so I truly did save the best for last.

October has been a busy, busy month on the volunteer scene.  Every weekend there has been at least one event, meeting, or scheduled activity to attend. With so many things going on, it should be no surprise that I have had a couple of “firsts” and lots of fun things happening.

J. V. Girl’s Field Hockey that is!  A few weeks ago I was invited to speak before a group of young female athletes, their coaches and families at a Field Hockey Tourney here in Greensboro NCI gladly accepted the invitation and almost immediately started to get a little anxious – not in a good way anxious.

This past weekend I had pleasure of volunteering at the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out Walk for Eastern North Carolina.  For several months I had been looking forward to participating for a second time as a walker, but a recent injury to my foot-more specifically a fractured sesamoid-sidelined me from actually walking the 5K route.  But like all things in life, everything happened exactly as it was intended.

We can no great things in this life.  We can do only small things with great love.”                                                                                                Mother Teresa

As I was thinking about what I wanted to write for this blog about volunteer service two things kept coming up over and over.  The first thing is the beautiful words of Mother Teresa’s quote.  Each time I think of serving others, that always comes to mind.  As far back as I can remember I have done small things with great love.
