In 2010, we are partnering to bring a unique, life-changing learning experience to women with diabetes. The First Annual Weekend for Women Conference will begin at 5pm on Saturday, May 22nd (immediately following the TCOYD Conference) in Raleigh, North Carolina and end at 6pm on Sunday, May 23rd. The Weekend for Women Conference will take place at Marriott City Center in downtwn Raleigh, North Carolina. All participants will receive a single room at the hotel. Weekend for Women participants will attend educational sessions on gender-specific topics related to diabetes treatment and care (such pregnancy, body image, journaling, nutrition), speak one-on-one with other women who are living successfully with diabetes, receive unbiased information on the emergence of new equipment and medications, and learn new tactics for improving their mental and physical health. Participants will also relax and rejuvenate on Saturday evening through one (1) complimentary session in the “Sweet Suite.” To kick off the educational sessions on Sunday, the seated breakfast will feature an entertaining and inspirational speaker, who shares something from her own experience of living with diabetes. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSQuestion: What if I live in the area and don't want to stay overnight at the hotel? Answer: We certainly understand your desire to save money and/or spend more time with your family. However, the theme of this Conference is to encourage you, as a woman with diabetes, to take time out for yourself. You deserve a night to focus on taking care of your mental and physical health. After all, this is the ONLY night out of the year that you will have the opportunity to socialize, share, "let your hair down", and learn from friends who are living with diabetes. To encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity, everyone who registers for the Conference will receive a single room at the Marriott City Center hotel. You are not required, but strongly encouraged, to stay at the hotel to fully engage yourself in the Conference and all it has to offer. The price of registration will remain the same regardless of whether or not you stay overnight at the hotel. Question: My daughter is 13 and has diabetes. Can she attend this Conference? Answer: We appreciate your enthusiasm about our Conference and your desire to provide educational resources for your daughter. However, the atmosphere at this Conference will be one of good, clean adult fun among old and new friends. Some may choose to consume alcohol on Saturday night while socializing with other women who are living with diabetes. In addition, the topics discussed during the sessions, such as sex, pregnancy, and menopause will be geared toward a mature female audience. As a result, we require Weekend for Women Conference attendees to be 18 years or older. Diabetes Camp may be a good option for your daughter until she turns 18. You can check the ADA website for camps in your area: http://www.diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/parents-and-kids/ada-camps/ Question: When/where can we pre-register for the Weekend for Women Conference hosted by DiabetesSisters and TCOYD? Answer: Registration will open the DiabetesSisters website on January 1, 2010 . Please register as soon as possible to ensure your spot is reserved. Reservations will ONLY be accepted for the first 100 registrants on a first come-first serve basis. Since this is the first year for this monumental Conference, we have made a decision to restrict the number of attendees to ensure a rich experience for ALL attendees. Question: What does the registration fee cover? Answer: The registration fee covers your room at the Marriott City Center hotel, three meals, a relaxation session, a Weekend for Women Conference t-shirt and tote bag, your program/notebook for the Conference sessions, and attendance at all 6 educational sessions. Question: The registration cost for the Weekend for Women Conference hosted by DiabetesSisters and TCOYD seems high to me. Could it be lowered? Answer: Please consider what attendees receive in exchange for the registration fee. If attendees were to purchase all of these things individually (hotel room at the new Marriott City Center, massage, 3 meals, Conference t-shirt and tote bag, 7 diabetes education sessions), the cost would be substantially higher than the registration fee. As a result, the sponsors of this landmark event are subsudizing the remainder of the cost for attendees. You may view the sponsors of this Conference at the bottom of this webpage.
