Exercise in the Winter (Megan)

I do not want to bundle up in multiple layers and go for a run outside. For that matter, I don't particularly want to drive to the gym either! I miss the warm summer days when I could go play tennis with friends, or go for a walk around campus, or go for a quick run in between classes. Now, it's time to move my workout indoors. So in order to do that, I was trying to brainstorm ways to keep my workout innovative and fun. I get bored easily, so it is very important that I keep things interesting.

I did come up with a few ideas though. For example, I could try some group classes at the gym on campus. In the past, I have really enjoyed the kickboxing classes. I seem to push myself a little harder when there are others around me and an instructor is barking orders! Also, I could buy some cheap fitness DVDs so I can work out in my room when it's just too cold to go out! I could even buy a set of dumbbells to help squeeze in some weight training between classes. So, I thought I would pose a question to you, the reader, about your exercise habits. How do you modify your routine to deal with cold weather?

I find that my diabetes control is so much better when I do some form of physical activity daily, if even for 15-20 minutes. When things get busy and my routine becomes slack, I start to notice my blood sugars creeping back up. So, for me, the importance of exercise is apparent! Let me know what you guys are thinking either through leaving a comment below, or e-mail me! Stay warm everyone!
