| Pump Malfunction!!! (Megan) |

I called my pump provider and they immediately shipped out a replacement, as a crack makes the pump susceptible to water leaks. This made me realize that I take my functional pump for granted! I was lucky that my pump was still delivering insulin, but if it was incapable of infusion, then I would have NO idea what to do! I have not been on shots for years and do not know how to make my pump settings correspond with shots again. After talking to my endocrinologist, she suggested that I always have some long-acting insulin as a back-up, along with extra short-acting insulin, which I use in my pump. She showed me how to convert my basal rates into shots, just in case. Also, when you have a pump, it is vital that you have a written record of all your pump settings, just in case something happens to render it unusable. If I had planned ahead like that, I could have saved some time this week pestering my endocrinologist for my basal rates and conversions! So lesson learned this week is as follows: occasionally inspect your pump for any abnormalities, before things get too late! And be prepared in case something unexpected happens! Until next time, have a wonderful week ladies!!
