What Physicians Are Saying:

"Information and motivation are the keys to success for all people with diabetes. DiabetesSisters is fulfilling both of these needs with a specifc focus on on the unique needs of women with diabetes. Clinical experience has shown me that women experience diabetes differently from men, so having a resource like DiabetesSisters is essential."

--John Buse, MD, PhD; Chief, Endocrinology Division, Department of Medicine, UNC-CH School of Medicine; Former President, Medicine and Science Division, American Diabetes Association

Welcome to DiabetesSisters!

Are you a woman with diabetes? Have you ever wished there was a place you could go to get support, get motivated, and get informed-- all in one location? If so, this website was designed especially for you by a group of your peers-- women with diabetes.

As women, we all need our "own little quiet place" to go and get recharged. As women with diabetes, it is often hard to find a place that caters to our unique needs and desires. You are encouraged to take time out from caring for others (spouse, kids, significant other, parents, etc.) and spend some time in this special place dedicated to you and your needs.

Our Mission:

DiabetesSisters is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the health and quality of life of women living with or at risk of developing diabetes, and to advocate on their behalf.

To fulfill our Mission, we provide the following programs and services to women with diabetes around the world:
  • Online Community to talk openly, share stories, and ask questions about diabetes without fear of judgment
  • An International Diabetes Buddy Program to connect women with a friend to support them on their journey with diabetes
  • Weekly Blogs about the nuances of living successfully with diabetes from our Type 1, Type 2, and Pregnancy Contributors
  • Monthly 'Hot Topics' Blogs to provide discussion on current developments related to women with diabetes
  • From the Experts...provides readers with access to certified healthcare providers to answer their important diabetes-related questions
  • 'SWEET TREATS' Boutique includes three stores filled with specialty items to nourish the spirits and educate the minds of women with diabetes.
  • Free Medication & Appoinment Reminder Program helps women fit diabetes daily care into their busy lives through reminders sent via text, email, or phone.
  • Free Membership which entitles members to access to our monthly e-Newsletter AND our Women's Forum.

So, come on inside and take a look around...There's something inside for every WOMAN with DIABETES! If you don't find what you're looking for, please contact us.

Testimonials

"I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1996 at the age of 15. I have always felt alone with it as I am the only one in my family with it. Not that they haven't been a huge support: but sometimes loved ones can overwhelm you with 'you can't eat this and you really should be eating that.'  How GREAT it was to come across DiabetesSisters! I have been reading through other women's comments and questions on the Women's Forum and I feel quite inspired!"

Bianca, Age 27, Type 1 diabetes, Diagnosed Aug. 1996; Manchester, UK

"DiabetesSisters has given me the motivation and support I need to keep up with my diabetes management. When I found DiabetesSisters, I had lost motivation. was frustrated and discouraged. This organization provides a place where someone will always understand what I am going through and be supportive no matter what!"

Donna, Age 46, Type 2 diabetes, Diagnosed Aug. 2007, Texas, US
