Hello again Ladies! This week, I had the privilege of attending a documentary about living with Type 1 diabetes at its second viewing in the nation at the IMAX theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina. (The first viewing was held in Indianapolis, IN.) The title of the documentary was “Life for a Child” and it was produced by the International Diabetes Federation and Ely Lilly and Company.

Hello All! I hope you have had a great FALL week/weekend! I attended my 15-Year High School Reunion this weekend with my husband. It is always interesting to see people from the past- how they’ve changed and how they’ve stayed the same. To provide a little background, I grew up in a small town in western North Carolina (Hickory) and the size of my graduating class was about 220 (or somewhere around there).

Are you Inward-Focused or Outward-Focused?
Many of us have grown accustomed to the consumer-minded, inward-focused messages splashed everywhere. These messages have taught us to focus on: what is going to benefit me, what’s the best deal for me, where I can go to get my needs met, what is most convenient for me, etc. etc. In fact, we often visit the internet for answers to our questions, to look for groups/organizations that serve our needs, to find stories/photos to entertain us, but do we ever look outside of ourselves?

I came across an interesting statistic this week regarding volunteering. According to Arthur Brooks, author of Gross National Happiness, “people who give moneyto charity are 43% more likely than those who don’t to say they are ‘very happy’ with their lives. Similarly, people who volunteer for a charity are 42% more likely than those who don’t to say that are ‘very happy’ with their lives.”
