Meters, meds and munchies - oh my! (Marci)

When I think about it, makes perfect sense since everything else – food, meds, testing, and exercise is predicated on my schedule.Lately, I have been doing a little bit of traveling for participation in Leadership North Carolina.  Not really far from home, but traveling that requires a couple of overnight stays.  It’s really a lot of fun and a lot more planning than I would have ever imagined. Not since my children were infants have I packed, repacked, checked, double checked, and yet checked again just for good measure a single bag.  That bag of course is the bag that contains all my gear – diabetes gear that is.  My meter, my meds, and  my munchies – CDE approved of course!  (You would be surprised how hard it is to buy a decent snack from many vending machines)  Naturally, I have to have a back up plan as well, so there are extra strips, lancets, alcohol preps, an “extra” couple of days worth of meds stashed in a different bag, and a couple of low carb protein drinks just in case dinner is not served until some awful hour.In the very near future I will be venturing out a lot further from home, for quite a bit longer than an overnight or two.  I am looking forward to the opportunity the travel will present, but at the same time, there is a part of me that dreads and maybe even resents all the “extra” that’s required for me to stay healthy now days.  Thankfully, those are just feelings that come and go quickly as soon as I get to my senses that it could be a whole lot worse and remind myself that I should always be so lucky that my biggest issue is keeping up with my diabetes gear!Until next week…..stay well my Sisters.

Ahh, I SO relate to this! I often will wake up in the middle of the night before
a trip and think in a panic, did I pack everything? Did I get all my infusion
sets, meter strips, back ups of EVERYTHING, insulin... It does add a lot to the
planning part of traveling, but I still love to travel.
butterflyshirls  - camping is a whole new adventure!   |Registered |2010-01-25 06:05:07
I can relate to this, but from a slightly different perspective. I had to
pack for a weekend camping trip, and considering all of my "fun" finding
space for my supplies and things, I had to chuckle a bit about this blog.
The most amusing part (heavy sarcasm) was trying to perform my morning
tests in an unlighted van--thank GOD for a lantern and good batteries!

The
funny thing was, after losing 40 pounds, I found out that my traditional
pilgrimage to a local lookout was a MUCH easier hike! It really
brought the changes I had been through since early diagnosis days into focus.
