December 14, 2009 Can you believe the Christmas Holiday is just over a week away. Well,it's just proof that when we are busy, the time and the years just seem to fly by. My daughter and I did get the tree up and decorated last week and I have begun my shopping, once I start the process seems to take care of itself. Then again what choice do we have if we want to get it done by the deadline. And oh my!! not to mention the cards I've yet to complete, address and get mailed out.... I will be taking the week before Christmas off from work, to both spend time with my daughter and to get the last minute shopping complete. We will also be doing our traditional cookie bake-a-thon. Together we choose about 3-4 different holiday cookie recipes, spend an entire day baking and decorating them and packing "most " (she saves some for herself and her dad) of them up to give away to family and friends on our Christmas Eve visit with them. I will admit that I even sample them as they come out of the oven, as we know it can be a little tricky to "dose for this special carbohydrate treat, but I usually do O.K.with having just a few. I always make up for it during this time with a little extra time at the gym to compensate for it. I believe it is possible to indulge if we remain aware of what we are eating and to be sure to test our blood sugars more often to track the results!! I would love to hear if my Diabetes Sisters indulge in Holiday treats and how you manage your blood sugars around this choice. Have a great week~
