Getting ready for the Holiday!!(Melissa)

December 4, 2009

Hello, I'm here and of course busy, but I'm sure we can all say that this time of year.  I can't believe Thanksgiving has come and gone already, and of course the holiday only signifies how close Christmas is, Tick-Tock!!!  My Thanksgiving was great, spent alot of time with my boyfriend and nervouslly met his family as we both had a 4-day weekend.  My daughter made a trip to N. Carolina with her dad to visit her Grandma, everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing time.  I have no news on the status of the company I work for or my job status, I was thinking they probably know something but maybe waiting until after the holidays to break it to us.  Just not sure, I can only speculate and hope for the best.

I am glad to say my bloodsugars have been stable, and no major lows to be rescued from.  I had my quarterly visit with my Dr. last week, and my A1C is still creaping up.  This time it was 6.8%, up from 6.2% from 4 months ago.  Even though my doctor assures me this is an OK number, I am a perfectionist and want it closer to 6% not 7%.  Of course when I was hovering closer to 5.5-6% in the past, it was also when I had way to many "Very Low' blood sugar episodes.  So toting the line to closely is not only extremely hard and stressful to keep up but also dangerous.  I do plan to see if the recent bowls of oatmeal I have been eating mid-morning at work most days, as a snack may be the carbohydrate change & difference that caused my A1C to go up slightly. Again, I am trying to ease up on the expectations of my A1C and realize that keeping within this 6-7% range is ok, and I remain otherwise very healthy and with no "diabetic" complications appearing at this point in time.

I would be curious to know what other diabetics Type 1 or 2, A1C's average and what feedback you get from your doctors.

Have a great week!!
