September 1, 2009 Hey DiabetesSisters! It is a wonderful feeling knowing that after a long and stressful day of classes and volunteering that I can sit in my bed with my laptop and reach out to you all through Diabetes Sisters. This week has really been a whammy so far! I have been staying up till eleven or twelve pm every night working on homework and studying for classes. I feel that everything is going well so far, but it is still too early to know how I am doing in each class. While my stress range is leveling off, I find it especially a challenge to manage my bloodsugars throughout all of the chaos. Also, I am beginning to recognize all the effort that is required to maintain exercise routines when life becomes a bit more complicated with work and studies and such. Despite all of the issues popping up with school, I am looking forward to the Take the Lake challenge that is coming up this Labor Day weekend at Lake Waccamaw, NC. I will be participating in the approximately 16 mile Bike ride around the lake on Sunday afternoon, while my mother will be jogging and biking the distance around the lake both Saturday and Sunday. Events like the Take the Lake challenge require quite a bit of planning for regular attendees and Diabetics alike. I have been training and working towards good blood sugar management for the event almost the entire summer. So far, I plan to carry an array of snacks and juices and such in a pack while I am biking. My primary concern is that my blood sugar remains stable throughout the entire event. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to ensure stability? I look forward to hearing everyone’s comments and suggestions. Hopefully, everyone will have a wonderful and blessed week. Happy blogging ladies!!!
