August 12, 2009 Good afternoon DiabetesSisters!!! I apologize for the late blog. As of Sunday, I will be blogging most every Sunday. As I sit on my couch and watch it rain outside, I keep wishing it was just as beautiful outside as it was the past few days. This evening I would like to share with you all my Diabetes experience from Lake Waccamaw. Many of you who exercise or frequently engage in physical activity know and understand the impact exercise can have on your bloodsugar. The other day, I spent the entire day from 10AM to 6PM on the lake at Lake Waccamaw engaging in jet ski riding, swimming, tubing, and much more. Normally, I am used to using the temporary basal feature on my insulin pump to control for activity and low bloodsugars, but this certain day on the lake was not a normal day on of exercise. Throughout the entire day, I believe I may have had my insulin pump on for maybe and hour and a half, and my bloodsugar levels remained in a normal stable range. It is important when being off of your insulin pump for several hours at a time to check your bloodsugars frequently… perhaps once every one to two hours. I would have thought that with the lack of insulin that my bloodsugars would rebound, but they remained stable the entire day. I feel that this is an example of the impact that exercise and activity can have on a person’s bloodsugars. Realizing the effects of exercise on Diabetes, there are and may be many more future implications for exercise, Diabetes, and control. I would love to here everyone’s experiences, so feel free to comment.
