Farewell, but not goodbye |
|
Hello Ladies! I hope everyone is having a great January. It has been a few weeks since my last blog, but I wanted to write a final farewell to you all. Soon, a new student blogger will be stepping in my shoes and sharing her experiences with all of us. Even though I will no longer be blogging, I will be reading and enjoying the blogs of all of the women who are a part of the Diabetes Sisters movement.

Freedom from exams (Sara) |
|
December 16, 2009 Good Wednesday afternoon ladies! I hope all is well in the world of Diabetes. I know that the weeks near the holidays can be quite stressful with all of the holiday shopping, arranging travel plans, and the abundance of sweets. The past few weeks have been stressful for me, but I just finished my last exam of the semester this morning. From experience, these weeks near the holiday season have been filled with holiday foods such as sweets, stressful nights, and long workdays.

A New Love in My Life (Sara) |
|
November 30, 2009 Good evening Diabetes Sisters!!! I hope all of you are having an amazing week thus far. There have been a lot of things going on in my life lately. This is especially true since it is exam time and I have a new love in my life. This past weekend I was able to take in a new cocker spaniel puppy named Baileigh. He is absolutely amazing and adorable, and most importantly he helps me escape from the dependency of diabetes.

The Calm After the Storm (Sara) |
|
November 18, 2009 Good evening everyone! Hopefully, everyone’s night has been enjoyable and dry. I ended up having to catch a bus after class in the rain with no umbrella, but my day has still been great! Today I want to talk about “the calm after the storm.” We all have good days and bad days that usually move in an oscillating motion. As one of the Diabetes Sisters said the other day, “we can have several good bloodsugar days and then they just seem to crash.” I really took this saying to heart because that type of pattern has been evident in my life lately since I had the flu. Some days my bloodsugars will be at normal levels and then they will either skyrocket or crash and burn to say the least. Facing the truth, this is life. The only thing we can do to overcome days like this is just face them, get upset, and move on (with a smile).

November 11, 2009 Good evening Ladies. Happy Diabetes awareness month! I hope everyone is having a great and cheerful week. This week has been a slow one for me because I am still getting over the flu. Also, North Carolina is experiencing the wrath of a tropical storm, which means that it has been raining and will more than likely continue to rain for the next few days. My body, mind, and bloodsugars have taken a blow from the H1N1 virus. Thankfully, the only residual symptoms I have left consist of minimal coughing and slight respiratory distress. Even though the symptoms are easing off, my bloodsugars are continuously uncontrolled and tend to fall on the high spectrum.

Sara Garrell Good afternoon Diabetes Sisters! I apologize for the late blog, but I have had a form of the flu over the weekend. Saturday night I woke up with a 102.1 fever, sore throat, body aches, etc…. These symptoms lasted until Monday morning, which is when my fever broke. Even though the fever has subsided, the congestion that was in my head has now moved to my chest and is accompanied by severe coughing. As you all can imagine, being sick has had an effect on my blood sugars.
