Week 1 of Registration; 2010 Resolutions??? (Brandy) PDF Print E-mail

January 11, 2010

Well, I have a lot to tell you about this week!  First and foremost, during the first week of open registration for the Weekend for Women Conference, we had more than 20 women register from all over the US—including Colorado, California, Oregon, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Ohio, North Carolina, and Tennessee!   At this rate, we will reach our max by mid-February!  We’ll have to start a wait list for next year’s Conference!  If you haven’t seen the Agenda or want more information about this life-changing conference for women with diabetes, I encourage you to visit: www.diabetessisters.org/weekend-for-women-conference.  If you are planning to register, please do so soon--before the registration is full!  It’s only open to the first 100 registrants.

It seems that everybody is talking about New Year's Resolutions....on the television, on the radio, in the newspaper, on the internet.  I don't know about you, but I am not big on resolutions (or at least the word 'resolution')!  When I hear the word 'resolution,' the next word that immediately comes to mind is 'disappointment.'  Resolution signifies something that I will be inevitably feel disappointment about if I do not keep up a steady habit of working toward every week of the year.  (You'll hear people say, "So much for my New Year's resolution of losing weight, I didn't make it to the gym this week."  And it usually involves removing something negative from your life-- excess weight, bad habits, etc.   Instead, my husband and I start the year by pulling out our set of goals that we set from the previous year, delight in the things we accomplished, and put those things that weren't accomplished on the list of goals for the upcoming year.  Our list of goals includes things that we want to accomplish individually and things that we want to accomplish together.  This year, our four year-old daughter overheard us talking about setting goals for the new year and she quickly chimed in, "I know what my goal for this year can be....to stop whining.  I know I can't whine when I go to big school," she proudly announced.  I couldn't be agree more!  This is hilarious because she has a bad habit of whining when she doesn't want to do something (like get dressed in the morning) and we've obviously voiced our displeasure with her behavior.  I was amazed that she so quickly understood what we were talking about and how it related to her life.   I can't wait until 20 years from now, when we can pull these sheets of paper out and look back at all we have accomplished over two decades!  My daughter will be 24 years old then and I can only imagine the look on her face when we read that her goal for 2010 was to stop whining!   Of course, at the top of my goal list for 2010 is to have a full-time salary again so that I can contribute monetarily to my family.  Did you set any goals for 2010?  Any related to diabetes?  Would you share them with us?  (I could use some help!)
